harnessess that produce
hello, new to sight since it has changed, preatty nice. i live 2.5 hours north of bay and have fished it a couple times with minor success. but 1 10 pounder. now that gas has come down to human again i want to come down this year. just wanted to know what produces for you guys down there like favorite color and blade size. i know this stuff is top secret but help a brother out here. i dont want to invest time and $ into a trip and troll something totally wrong. i got into tying own harnessess and want to tie more. how about cranks. i got tots and kabooms and shad raps. whats your favorite, anybody? always looking to buy more cranks! makes wife happy...
Buckmyster,
I just started to tie harnesses for next season the other night. When I am making harnesses, I like to keep things simple. Hot bead colors have been chartreuse, orange, and red. I prefer to troll with Silver Streak size 5 and 6 Colorado blades. Hot colors last year were yellowtail, confusion, watermelon, pink panties, perch, copper perch, Double Dutch, and copper greasy chicken. Here is a listing of the Silver Streak colors/patterns: http://www.wolverinetackle.com/appiesnet/gallery/blades
Be sure to put a quick change clevis on all of your harnesses so that blades can be quickly changed to match the hot presentation.
I will be posting fishing information from my Saginaw Bay charters on this website throughout the summer months. Stay tuned!!!!

thank you very much with the info. always looking for a reason to tie more harnessess, it's addicting. i did buy some tommy harris blades last summer but have been looking at the silver steaks too. hey i did check out your site yesterday actually about just going that way instead of towing down. preatty reasonable i thought on price. hey thanks again! i almost forgot, does just plain hammered silver or gold work very well?
Plain silver and gold blades are also great on some days. In general, go with silver if the sun is out and go with gold/copper if it is cloudy.
My charters are more of a hands-on experience than most charters. I take out a lot of clients who are interested in learning the basics of fishing the bay. I am also one of the only charters that run crawlers. Most charters consider fishing spinners to be too much of a hassle. I believe it is the most productive ways to catch walleyes on the bay. Contact me if you are interested in a trip this spring/summer. One trip will shave years off of your spinner fishing learning curve.
