Had great grouse hunting the past three weekends, seems we are in a peak year. Hunted the Grayling area , and eastern Gladwin Co. with multiple birds taken both places. Good opportunity to get the dog and my aim tuned in before heading to South Dakota for pheasant. So if you are going out for a day of scouting for deer season take a shotgun and maybe pick up a grouse or two for the dinner table.

Good Luck and Safe Hunting!!!!!

Good day all, just returned from a 10 day pheasant hunt in sunny South Dakota, where I spent many hours hunting and talking with people who are instrumental in maintaining quality pheasant hunting in there state. One may ask themselves what this has to do with a Michigan hunting and fishing web site. Well as I walked the ditch / fence rows and crp fields my mind wandered back to my teenage years hunting pheasants with my father and friends in mid-Michigan and how much we have lost. The sound of a pheasant cackle breaking from the point of a dog is rare unless you are willing to pay for it!  We as sportsman in Michigan must do our best to preserve our natural game, take only what you need and support the replenishment and habitat needed to maintain healthy wild game numbers. I must take a moment to talk about the hunt the only word to describe it is “AWESOME”, two and three year old birds with 22 to 24 inch tail feathers. Numbers were good with limits found most days with a little work and some walking. The dog work to perfection and had lots of fun, I think he would run till his feet fell off and still keep going. All I can say is if you have the chance to make the trip take it.                                                                                                                                                        Good hunting and be safe!
