They only put one truck in on Tue. the other 4 trucks were put in 3 weeks ago and are for the most part out in the lake now,we only have the plants from the last truck in the river right now. I'am one of the guys chasing those flying rats, I've been chasing them for 5 weeks everyday now, by the end of this week the rest of the plants should be out to the lake, the birds are getting some but not that many, the ones they shot Fri. were full of perch not steel plants and we don't just jump them out of the roosting tree's but keep them off the river from River Rd to the mouth, the Walleye are feeding on them to but there's not much we can do about that. Now as for the fishing there are trout to catch but the river is also full of suckers right now and you have to get past them to get to the steel, the are getting good catches of walleye at the mouth and some browns mixed in. Went 2 for 6 today and that was a lot of work. We need a late run to improve the success rate. As a bonus I saw a large sturgeon trying to climb up over the spillway rocks. Fishing Location: Tippy (Big Manistee) Manistee/Wellston Area Conditions Best Fishing Times
Me, my son and a buddy fished the Big M below Tippy Sunday 4/20/08 from around 6:30 a.m. till about 10:00 a.m. on the cardiac hill side below the coffer and I landed one 5lb silver hen, tight with her eggs, we had between the 3 of us maybe another 3 or 4 on. We then went and checked out the Bear and Little M with no success so we came back to Tippy and fished the boat ramp side from about 2:00 p.m. till dark, My son Colton caught a nice male in the combat zone on the rocks around 3:30 then we moved downstream and from about 5:30/6:00 I caught 3 more, my son got 3 more and my buddy Mike landed 1, we had fish on constantly, it was the best 21/2 to 3 hours of Steelhead fishing I have ever had, they were nailing the flies like live bait, really hammering them!! Mostly laytex nymphs and springs wigglers. We released 2 fish out of the 9 we landed, we had a total of 3 hens and some real nice males, biggest 2 were over 10lbs. All in all a great day to be on the river!! Started out slow but ended awesome!! Tight lines and good luck! Fishing Location: Wellston
Hooked 11 Steelhead before I filled my creel Monday. Again it was a great day for me but it was a lot of work too. My leaders have been breaking terribly. Maybe it's the zebra muscles? As for the man that asked about Sanford lake... I really don't fish here much but my friends do good on panfish and the occasional walleye. There is a pike tournament coming up. Fishing Location: Ausable
