Fishing Location: Manistee   Manistee/Wellston Area Conditions   Best Fishing Times

Just got back from Manistee; if you wanted to fish the pier heads and do harbor patrol I guess they did pretty good, not my kind of fishing; we fished there Thursday evening because the big lake was pretty rough and got one small king; ended up 10 for 13; caught four fish on magnum Moonshine Happy Meal and one magnum Moonshine Blue Flounder on 300' copper rig; 1 on green ladder back J plug on dipsey 160' back; 2 on green and silver spoon on the riggers about 35' down; 1 on magnum Mooonshine Blue Flounder on rigger 35' down and 1 on blue holagram/glow Spin Doctor with blue bubble fly on dipsey back around 150'. Except for one in harbor all fish were caught in 95 to 125 FOW from 16.2 to 18 N latitue; i.e about 1/2 mile north of pier hears and furhter north. Best day was Saruday morning where we had 3 kings 13, 14 and 15 pounder. Due to north winds fishing was tough on the shelf; surface water temp in 100 FOW was 51 to 53 degrees; with last night's west wind temp came up a few degrees this morning. West winds are predicted so go get em' stacked up on the shelf.

Can I take my kids to the piers and cast for Salmon yet? Was thinking of just casting spoons. Will little cleo's work? Would meat be better? Does it have to be alive? If so how do you rig/fish it? Will it be combat fishing on the piers? Thanks a bunch for any info.

Manistee is on fire right now if you want ot fish the harbor or the pier. Fish on the south pier were coming on alewives while we were taking easy limits pulling Silver Horde plugs in any shade of pearl 13, 16 and 19 on riggers 35 and 40 on Slide Diver Lite Bites and 3 color leadcore when there is room. This should last as long as the cold water stays in there. Fishing the beach has also been productive for many. Good Fishin!

Fishing Location: frankfort

Just got back from fishing in Frankfort Sunday, Monday and tuesday. The fishing is absolutely fantastic. 21 total salmon steelies. Most of the kings were 16 to 18 lbs. with one weighing 22 lbs. Lost at least 15 fish and maybe 12 pop offs. Areas of interest were south of betsie about 1/2 mile and out maybe 3miles. And north of betsie about 3 miles start at the bank in 65 fow out to 200 fow dipsies were the hot rod. wonder bread with dream weaver glow white and gold with aqua gold glow and green fly. dipsies were set on 3 out up to 300 ft. average around 200. some takers on green chilly willy downriggers down to 60 to 80 ft. good luck hope this helps.

Fishing Location: muskegon   Muskegon Area Conditions   Best Fishing Times

fished muskegon the morning of 8-13-8 and had a great day 4 for 4 on j-plugs, green ladder back and wonderbread. caught them all in front of the piers. 15 to 20 feet down in 30 fow. only drawback was that it was very crowded.
